2011 Toyota Avalon Review

Overview

The all new 2011 Toyota Avalon comes with a distinctive new exterior style while offering a restyled interior rich with premium touch points and practical new technologies. It includes numerous refinements inside and out offering honest, uncomplicated comfort and convenience. The Avalon is available in Avalon and Limited grades.

Power and performance

The 2011 Toyota Avalon derives from a 24-valve, dual-overhead cam 3.5-liter V6 engine rated at 268 horsepower at 6,200 rpm. This engine is teamed with the latest dual VVT-i electronic valve-control mechanism and a multi-mode six-speed automatic transmission. The Avalon is an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) with EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city, 29 highway, and 23 combined.

Body and styling

Both Avalon and Limited grades are well equipped with a long list of standard equipment including new headlamps, dual exhaust pipes, dual zone automatic climate control with air filtration, moonroof, eight-way leather-trimmed power driver's seats, back-up camera, Bluetooth hands-free phone, XM satellite radio (subscription required), and both USB and 1/8-inch auxiliary connections for iPod and other audio devices and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Limited has some additional standard equipment such as an eight-way passenger's seat with lumbar support, driver's seat cushion extension, rain-sensing wipers, High intensity discharge (HID) headlamps with auto level control, auto on/off feature and Daytime Running Lights (DRL), chrome outside door handles, wood-grain-style and leather trimmed shift knob and steering wheel, Smart Key and cooled leather seats. The Avalon grade comes with a standard nine-speaker system and the Limited features a standard 12-speaker, 660-watt JBL Premium Synthesis audio system with enhanced two-coil sub-woofer. Navigation is optional for both grades.

Safety Features

The new Avalon comes with seven standard life saving airbags, including a front knee bag for the driver, and front side curtain airbags for both rows. Toyota's standard Star Safety System includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist, and TRAC traction control system.
